Ros and I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the Green Howard killed in Afghanistan yesterday, it is always a tragedy to lose a life but more painful when it is one of your own.
God bless the finest regiment in the British Army and all Green Howard’s on active service.

Shann would of loved to have went mate but number 1 daughter gets married 05 july.
Going to be skint for about 5 years lol, if this trip goes ok which I know it will, then I'm up for the next one.
Just for interest was look on the net at accomodation and found a site called TravelRepublic.co.uk and found a one room, for two people apartment in the Aquarium II Hotel----- wait for it-----
£51 each 14th June----21st Jun, if some of the lads who are going have not booked up yet you should check it out, there are a lot more deals on there also, and no I dont work for them.
If I dont see you before you go have a great time old mate.
ps-- dont share a room with Gordie Foley lol.
Only kidding Gordie
Mazza.

mazza Saturday, 8 December 2007 13:41

shann Saturday, 8 December 2007 18:22
I know how you feel Mazza my daughter got married three years ago and I,m still recovering from it. I could'nt get a room at the Ambassador through the travel agent near me,should have spoke to you sooner those prices you quoted are a lot cheaper than I got my room for, must be the rip off prices down here. Good luck with your daughters wedding, give Al Holmes an ear warmer and see if he can make it or will he be at the wedding. all the best CM

mazza Saturday, 8 December 2007 19:23
Shann, Alan is in Turkey with cutts for them dates so he cant make it either.
Here's one for the lads who my be going on that pi@@ up, er I mean holiday and not booked up yet, travelrepublic quoted me, if I booked the flight and hotel with them using the same hotel and the flight from Newcastle 09-40hrs the price would be £223.46 however if you book the flight with easyjet with there insurance it will cost £141.98 and then book the hotel through travelrepuplic for £53.23 there a saving of £28.25 however they will charge you £5.00 each for using your credit card, but still that £18 in your back pocket for more sherbits.
Remember lads my last 2 year in the Bat was movements clerk and I learnt a few trick.

Hi Ray,
If Capt McDermid was attached to XIX he is classed as one of our family then can you put his name in the Fallen Comrades with all the other brave lads. cheers
mazza.

Ray Gascoyne Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:59
Mazza, there's no doubt that Capt McDermid was attached to the Howards, there's no doubt that he is classed as one of the family and there's certainly no reason why he should not be included on the Roll of Honour on the Fallen Comrades page.
Thank you Mazza for bringing the matter to my attention. I will deal with it straight away.

Ray Gascoyne Thursday, 6 December 2007 16:59
Mazza,
Capt John McDermid is now on the Roll of Honour

Ray Gascoyne Friday, 7 December 2007 18:44
Shan, as I have already explained to Marty; I'd love to be there with you all, but Benedorm in June would be too hot for Marlene and I. Anyway; you young lads don't want us old age pensioners spoiling your fun! You all enjoy it, we older Green Howards are having our mini-reunion in Benidorm at Christmas. We fly out there on Christmas Day! cool cool cool cool razz (stick out tongue)

Thanks for putting the column from this morning's Sun newspaper on the site. Griff txted me this morning about it. Also heard it at lunchtime on Radio 1's Newsbeat, but it never mentioned any of the units involved. God Bless everyone of them involved.

Excellent skills Shan, then again your all round skills (boxing, soldering and chicks) have always been excellent. Always good to hear that some of us still wear the trousers. Few coming on board now, should be a good crack. Are you working on Tom and Spike or will they be busy cutting lawns and pruning etc. See you soon, Marty

Spike patterson Wednesday, 5 December 2007 15:41

left is mick carlton, center spike pattison with hair under his topper

Andy Carr Thursday, 29 November 2007 23:12
On the right is Mark Simms (Simmo) a good mate from my school days. Looks like Masonic SF Base, Derry 87 or Belfast 85 .

Mace Friday, 30 November 2007 08:51
I agree with the IDs above but reckon its def W Belfast 85 as we had the SA80 for the Derry tour. the guy on the left could be Mick Calton but difficult to tell under the shade of his "Bongy" an alternative could be Don Laidlaw. Suitable caption could read "Spike you put the magazine thingy with those nasty pointy things into that big hole under your gun thing"

Andy Carr Friday, 30 November 2007 09:06
Definately Derry tour because we didn't get the SA80 till half way through the tour. We also didn't have the new helmets in Belfast

Mace Friday, 30 November 2007 10:20
Maybe Andy as I arrived half way through the tour due to posting, did a bit of war dodging you know !

Andy Friday, 30 November 2007 10:27
Thought you were, the hard work had been completed by the time you got there. Hope you are well mate!

I'm Austrian by birth and currently studying for a postgrad degree at the University of Portsmouth, UK. Presently I'm trying to collect information for a contemporary history / cultural heritage project on the Allied occupation of Austria after WW2. I'm trying to find Veterans from the occupation who would be willing to answer a few questions about their experiences in Austria and the general relationship between liberators and the liberated.
If there are any Green Howards veterans who could help me, I would be delighted to hear from you.
