Mr Graham CROSSLAND MM – Darlington Branch

Graham Crossland was a coal miner for seven years before joining the Army in Sheffield in 1965. Trained at Strensall, he was awarded Best Recruit at his Passing Out Parade. He joined 1st Battalion in Colchester in 1966 and that year went to Hong Kong and Malaysia, and later to Canada, British Honduras, Germany, Kenya and Cyprus.

Graham Crossland completed several tours in Northern Ireland and in 1972 was awarded the Military Medal for Bravery. Promoted to Warrant Officer Class 2 in 1983, Graham left the Army in 1987 as Company Sergeant Major with the TA at Stockton Road Middlesbrough, where he served three times.

Graham Crossland MM, one of our most distinguished and gallant members, was also a notable sportsman, especially in the boxing ring. He has been a strong GHA supporter, at the Reunion and Richmond Sunday, and is a member of the Friends of the Green Howards Museum
